It is true I am under grace. However way too many people teach that I am under grace and that the laws of YHWH no longer exist. They say that the “Mosaic” law was nailed to the cross. I am here to tell you that grace can not exist without His perfect law.
Let’s say that I am driving 60 miles per hour down a road in a 45 mph zone. A police officer pulls me over and writes me a speeding ticket. After doing so he shows me the ticket. He then tears it up saying that he is forgiving me this once. This officer just granted me a grace.
Now, let’s say that I am driving down a road without any speed limit whatsoever. There is no speed limit on this road! A police officer can not pull me over for speeding. Can the police officer offer grant me grace since there is no law against speeding on this road? He might be able to tell me that he thinks I was going to fast, but this is just his opinion and I have not violated any speeding law, even though I may have violated his opinion (tradition). He can not forgive me for anything that I have not done that would need to be forgiven for. Can he show me what is called grace?
The simple answer is no. He can not forgive me and he can not show me grace because I did not break any law whatsoever. There must be a law to violate in order to be shown grace. I reiterate that “grace can not exist without law.” Without the law there is no need for grace!
Now let’s say that a police officer pulls me over for speeding and he does in fact give me the ticket and sends me on my way. On that ticket (the bible) there will be information about the violation (sin) that was committed. I am informed of a time and a place when my debt must be paid (judgement day).
So I appear before the judge. The judge surprises me by paying my debt and letting me go. Let’s take a look at Colossians 2:14 as one explanation of what just happened in that court room.
Colossians 2:13-14 “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having blotted out the certificate of debt against us – by the dogmas – which stood against us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the stake.”
This certificate of debt that is against me listing my sin as a debt before YHWH. This is what was nailed to the cross, my certificate of debt, NOT YHWH’s law (often referred to as the Mosaic law). Now I can see that what happened in the court room is similar to what happened when Yeshua died for my sins. He forgave me and paid the debt I owe before believing on Him and becoming His obedient disciple.
Matthew 18:23-35 “Because of this the reign of the heavens is like a certain man, a sovereign who wished to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents, but as he was unable to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. Then the servant fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I shall pay you all.’ And the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. (the next verses shows you can and will lose your salvation) And that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred pieces of money. And he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ Then his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I shall pay you all.’ But he would not, and went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. And when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were deeply grieved, and came and reported to their master all that had taken place. Then his master called him and said to him, ‘Wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt seeing you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, as I also had compassion on you?’ And his master was wroth, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. “So also My heavenly Father shall do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”
